Disability Living Allowance.

In reply to a question in the House of Commons on 28 April 2004 by Mr David Willetts, MP for Havant, Maria Eagle, the Minister for Work and Pensions, gave the following figures for the number of people receiving DLA as a result of their deafness, and the annual expenditure, for each of the years 1992 to 2003.
Numbers of people receiving disability living allowance (DLA) as at 31 August each year, broken down by type of disability.

Deafness
8,100 in 1992;
9,300 in 1993;
10,100 in 1994;
11,800 in 1995;
13,900 in 1996;
16,700 in 1997;
20,400 in 1998;
22,900 in 1999;
24,100 in 2000;
26,900 in 2001;
28,900 in 2002;
30,800 in 2003.
